WASHINGTON (WDVM) – Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC (PPMW) has announced that it will provide home abortion services to people in the DMV area, becoming the second Planned Parenthood affiliate in the country to offer this service.
A press release says this option is available “up to eight weeks and six days after a person’s last period starts.” Any resident of DC, Maryland, or Virginia is eligible.
“COVID has made access to abortion more urgent and our providers are ready to provide this service. Following restrictive laws like SB 8 in Texas, the flexibility of home abortion is particularly useful for those who may have difficulty making an appointment at one of our health centers, ”the statement said.
Patients will meet with an online PPMW provider after a telephone screening. Medications can be mailed or picked up, and PPMW will have a follow-up call a week later.
The press release said:
The cost of the home medical abortion, including medication and aftercare, is $ 525. Financial assistance is available to help cover the cost of care. Services are available in English and Spanish. Patients can learn more or make an appointment at 202-347-8512.
