Leading neurosurgeon Dr. Nilesh Kurwale received Rotary Professional Excellence Award for free treatment of epilepsy to the needy – Punekar News

Pune, 03 April 2022: The Rotary Club of Pune Baner has awarded the prestigious Rotary Professional Achievement Award to Dr. Nilesh Kurwale, a neurosurgeon and epilepsy specialist from Pune.

The award ceremony was recently held at Bal Kalyan Sanstha, Ganeshkhind Road, Pune on the occasion of Purple Day, or Epilepsy Day. The main guest of the function was DGN Rtn. Manjoo Phadke of Rotary District 3131. Dr. Kurwale was recognized for his exemplary contribution to epilepsy surgeries. He is the Head of Epilepsy Department at Deeanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Centre, Pune.

Dr. Kurwale is also running a special project with the Rotary Club of Pune Baner, in which poor and needy epileptic patients are treated free of charge via microsurgery conducted by Dr. Kurwale and his team.

The award carried a citation and a trophy. The trophy was presented to the recipient by DGN Manjoo. The President of the Rotary Club of Pune Baner, Rotarian Sanket Saraf presented the citation to Dr. Kurwale. Rotarian Captain Pradeep Nadkar read the citation.

Speaking on the occasion, DGN Manjoo noted that this award instituted by Rotary International recognizes the great contributions made by various individuals in society to the development of humanity.

She said: “Dr Kurwale’s work is truly commendable and helping to change the lives of poor epilepsy patients.”

She added that Rotary District 3131 would like to continue the Baner Club’s full-scale epilepsy surgery project next year.

On receiving the award, Dr Kurwale said the award holds special significance as it raises awareness of the need for epilepsy surgeries and highlights the work he has done. He thanked Rotary for the Nobel initiative.

Also present on the occasion were the relatives of epileptic patients, whose surgeries were successfully performed by Dr. Kurwale. “Our children had reincarnations because of Dr. Kurwale’s surgeries,” they claimed.

Also present were members of the Rotarian club Aniruddh Joshi, secretary and others. They were Rotarians Unmesh Risbood, Vaishali Zumbre, Rajat Chitrawanshi, Jignesh Karia, Prreeya Karia, Satyanarayan Kabra, Vikram Jadhav and others. Rotarian Surhuda Kulkarni led the discussion and Rotarian Satyajit Wale offered a vote of thanks.
